SCOTUS to anti-gay KY clerk Kim Davis - Do your job

SCOTUS tells Davis that SHE should 'talk to the hand.'

This just came in from MSNBC via the Associated Press:

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a Kentucky county clerk's request to deny gay marriage licenses on the basis of religious objections.  The court issued the one-line order without explanation.
Kim Davis, the clerk in Rowan County, Kentucky, "holds an undisputed sincerely held religious belief that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, only," her lawyers had said in an application after the Supreme Court ruled earlier this summer that same-sex marriage was legal across the country.
Immediately after the Supreme Court's June 26th gay marriage ruling, Kentucky's governor, Steve Beshear, ordered all the state's county clerks to comply with the decision and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
When Davis refused, citing her religious objection, couples seeking licenses sued, and a federal judge ordered her to comply. Last week a three-judge panel of the Sixth Court of Appeals agreed. The Supreme Court decision on Monday denied Davis' request for a stay while she pursues an appeal.
It's not clear exactly what Davis will do when her office opens Tuesday. Her attorney said she will pray about it overnight.

It is now YOUR move, Ms. Davis and the Liberty Counsel (her lawyers). Whatever the case may be, tomorrow morning in Kentucky will probably be more anticipated than Superbowl kick-off.

Happily, her prayers will go unanswered. She now must do her job. If she still refuses, jail her. Nobody is denying her her religious rights. She can still go to church, she can still pray over meals, she JUST CANNOT bring her religion into her government job. If she doesn't understand this basic fact, she probably should be relieved of her position.

No, just fire her for refusal to perform her job.

Sadly, I doubt she understands this basic fact.

Dude, she shouldn't be jailed. That's a little over the top. As annoying as stupid is, there is a reason that it isn't illegal. There wouldn't be enough room left in this country for houses if we had to build enough jails to hold everyone that dove head first into ignorant.

She should be fired just like anyone else that gets paid to do a job that they refuse to do. Why on earth would someone choose a job that is against their religion anyway?? She would probably benefit from some therapy to address why she feels she is being forced to work in a field that directly contradicts her beliefs. If religion is so important to her, it would make a lot more sense to work elsewhere. She's like a vegetarian working in a slaughterhouse complaining about how she doesn't have the freedom to stop killing animals. And I say that as a former vegetarian. Seriously, pick a different damn job.

I agree with you anonymous. I bet pictures of her in handcuffs is just what she wants

"she will pray about it overnight...."

Meaning, she will mumble words to a non-existent being who "miraculously" mirrors her opinions.

She's broken the law. She's disobeyed direct court orders, and people don't want her in jail because? Seeing someone who breaks the law in handcuffs may make people being denied their civil rights by the government look bad? That's entirely backward. The woman is refusing to obey two court orders, and is violating the public's constitutional rights to not have the government (the office she was elected to) establish a religion (hers) and the constitutional right to marriage per the SCOTUS ruling. She's clearly and openly disobeying the court orders, which is illegal, and she's using her office to force her religion on people, which probably constitutes the misconduct charge being brought against her. If you can abuse your office and force your religious beliefs on the public without jail time, we're in trouble.

This has nothing to do with her personal religious liberty. Her office doesn't have religious liberty. "I have religious beliefs" doesn't give anyone the power to ignore court orders or abuse their office's power.

Those are her choices, and they are criminal and she belongs in jail and should be labelled a criminal that stripped couples from her county of their right to marriage, and their right to freedom from governmental establishment of religion. She is very easy to paint as the monster that she is. I don't understand the "oh she has feelings about her religion so we have to be super nice to her" attitude that so many people had. If she committed a religious murder, or violated a drug law for religious reasons, or was torturing animals for religious reasons, or was selling her children to adults as brides for religious reasons, we'd want her in chains, why are we treating ourselves like we don't matter?
