Anti-gay talking head gets downright hysterical over 'Kinky Boots'

Austin Ruse
As we all know, a certain performance during Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade of the Tony-award-winning musical 'Kinky Boots' sent some conservatives and religious right talking heads into orbit.

But hands down, the most hysterical response regarding this non-controversy had to come from Austin Ruse, president of The Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute (C-FAM). According to Right Wing Watch, as he guest-hosted on the American Family Association's radio show today, Ruse went on and on about how children will be hurt by this performance. On second thought, that's putting it mildly:

There is pathologically homophobic and then there is hysterical and when I say that Ruse crossed both lines, I am not exaggerating. Ruse, who obviously has not even seen the show, made the performance segment sound less like what it was and more like an alien invasion out of the Twilight Zone.

It really wasn't that bad. In fact all of the controversy actually worked out in favor of 'Kinky Boots.' According to the Huffington Post, it "smashed ticket sale records."

And I wouldn't be shocked if Ruse comes around looking for a cut of the proceeds.

I took my 83 year old mother to see "Kinky Boots" on Broadway last Mothers Day. She loved it and so did I! I might add she is a Catholic and has been one her whole life. This guy doesn't know what he is talking about!

I will say this, it was a tacky proformence for something meant for kids, but the way they go on you'd think it trumped mass shootings and alike. Overstatements just make people look like dicks. If you ask me Kinky boots should cut him a check for advertisement and them promote it just to piss him off more.

I think this shows that the Krazy Kristers Koalition (letter "K" used very much deliberately) is really running out of things over which to froth at the mouth. Thirty years ago LA CAGE AUX FOLLES was the hottest ticket in town and they performed at the parade and if there was a stink I didn't hear about it; the whole city was in love with that show. And it has been revived twice, most recently two years ago; the latest revival played around the same time as PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT, and I didn't hear a peep from the wing nuts. But KINKY BOOTS seems to have caught their attention, which I think indicates that they are running out of material.

I heard that in the performance everyone was naked and having sex and that they forced everyone watching the parade to strip naked, and also the people watching on TV and that then they held a satanic rite where they killed a goat and ate bats and that the earth opened up and the flames of hell came up and lifted Santa (everyone knows that's Satan just mispelled) high up in the air like he was on a satanic thrown and everyone was in awe and fell down on the ground dead....what? you mean that didn't happen?
